Historic Illinois State

Center for Performing Arts

Architect: Hammel, Green, Abrahamson, Associates, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Construction in progress

Center for the Performing Arts In 1999, construction began on a new complex adjacent to the theatre building in the southeast corner of the Quad. It will house a state-of-the-art 450-seat theatre and an 800-seat concert hall that will make the School of Theatre and the College of Fine Arts a center for the performing arts able to handle all types of performances.
The red brick and glass building will be located north of the Centennial Building and south of Williams Hall, adjacent to the scenic quadrangle. The architecture of the building will fit into the existing design of the Centennial buildings. A wall of glass opens onto the Quadrangle enclosing the lobby of the eighteen million-dollar structure.  A student referendum in 1996, the Campus Enhancement Program, allowed for the funding of the Center for Performing Arts. The remainder of the funding will be from private donations. The new Center for Performing Arts is anticipating its first performance in the fall of 2002.
