This
building houses the School of Art and the University
Galleries. The concrete and brick International style
building provided for the first time expanded studio
space, classroom facilities, offices, and gallery space
for exhibiting student, faculty, and visiting collections.
The College of Fine Arts at Illinois State University
is one of the leaders nationally in the use of technology
in the arts. The Office of Research Arts Technology
provides resources, classes and labs for the Schools
of Art, Music, and Theatre. There are currently five
computer labs/classrooms for art students in addition
to labs for theatre design, theatre management,
and electronic music.
The University Galleries, which opened in 1973, features
three galleries with a total of 7500 square feet. It
is one of the most widely used downstate exhibition
spaces. The galleries exhibit works by ISU students,
faculty, and alumni. Some of the most successful exhibitions
have been by artists Jeanne Dunning, Keith Haring, and
David Wojnarowicz. CVA Galleries are open seven
days a week. In earlier days, at this end of the
campus a streetcar line cut across from North Street
and headed south toward Illinois Wesleyan University
and Bloomington.
