Historic Illinois State

Schroeder Hall

Architects: Lundeen & Hilfinger, Bloomington, Illinois: Annex: Keith E. Middleton & Associates, Architects, Bloomington, Illinois

Schroeder Hall is the home of the Departments of History, Political Science, Sociology/Anthropology, Criminal Justice, and the Schroeder Hall Academic Computing Unit. Dedicated in September 16, 1957 and named for Herman Henry Schroeder, longtime faculty member in Educational Psychology (1913-1943) and Schroeder Hall Dean (1928-1943). He twice served as acting president. The Annex was opened in 1964. A clock dedicated to the memory of President John F. Kennedy is on the south exterior wall of the building.
The building is influenced by the International Style of architecture, constructed of redbrick to match the rest of the traditional campus buildings.  Renovation plans are currently underway for Schroeder Hall, which will have a new look for the 2006 school year.
